Roman Reigns, who defeated CM Punk to become the World Heavyweight Champion in the main event of Night Two, has his first opponent set: Jacob Fatu. Fatu challenged Reigns for the title this past Monday, leading to a likely one-on-one match at Backlash on May 9.
During the WrestleMania 42 post-show on Sunday, Reigns and Oba Femi hinted at a feud. However, according to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that feud may not happen anytime soon. Meltzer indicated that once Reigns finishes his rivalry with Fatu, he is expected to face GUNTHER. Whether this match takes place at SummerSlam or later will depend on whether GUNTHER pursues Brock Lesnar at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
Additionally at WrestleMania 42, Logan Paul and Austin Theory lost a six-man tag team match against The Usos and LA Knight. However, they are not expected to feud with Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso in the near future, according to Meltzer. This past Monday on RAW, The Street Profits aligned with Seth Rollins and targeted The Usos, indicating that the current World Tag Team Champions will likely feud with Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins in the coming weeks.
In the Intercontinental Championship picture, Ethan Page made his debut this past Monday by defeating Je’Von Evans, who was later attacked by Rusev. Reigning champion Penta came to Evans’ aid but was subsequently taken out by Rusev with an assist from Page. According to Meltzer, Penta is set to defend his title against these three competitors in the coming months, although it remains unclear whether these will be individual singles matches or multi-person bouts.
Meanwhile, Liv Morgan and Stephanie Vaquer continue their feud, having faced off this past Monday. Meltzer also reported that Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton are poised to have a rematch for the Undisputed WWE Title, which may lead to a future feud between Rhodes and CM Punk. Punk and Rhodes teased a match on RAW after WrestleMania 42. Finally, a match between IYO SKY and Asuka is scheduled to take place at Backlash.
