AEW recently announced the brackets for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship Tournament, which kicked off on last week’s episode of Dynamite. However, the exact date for the finals has not yet been revealed.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest episode of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is likely that the finals will take place at this month's Full Gear pay-per-view (PPV). AEW typically announces the details regarding the finals of their tournaments in advance. However, with only two weeks remaining until Full Gear, no announcement has been made yet regarding the tournament's conclusion during the PPV.
Meltzer mentioned that AEW might be delaying the announcement because TBS Champion Mercedes Moné has a match scheduled at the PPV, where she will challenge Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World Championship. He also noted that if the finals had been announced earlier, it would have strongly indicated that Moné and Athena were set to lose; they indeed lost in the first round to the Babes of Wrath during this week's Dynamite.
Now that Moné and Athena are out of the tournament, AEW is expected to announce the finals soon. Meltzer speculated that Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa are likely to reach the finals, where they would face either the Babes of Wrath or the Sisters of Sin. The latter two teams are scheduled for a semifinal match after Skye Blue and Julia Hart defeated Jamie Hayter and Queen Aminata in the first round.
With four shows remaining before Full Gear and four matches left in the tournament, AEW Full Gear will take place on Saturday, November 22, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and will air live on PPV, including through HBO Max.
