Backstage News On Whether Mercedes Moné Has Any Issues With Losing In AEW

Top AEW star Mercedes Moné, the reigning TBS Champion and Undisputed ROH Women's World TV Champion, has only experienced a handful of losses in the company. Many fans believe she refuses to lose, which they think explains her limited number of defeats. However, this is not the case, as stated by Dave Meltzer on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.

During the show, a fan inquired about The Hurt Syndicate and expressed that they were getting "Miro" and "Aleister Black" vibes from the wrestlers. Meltzer pointed out that Bobby Lashley has not taken any pinfall losses in AEW and that he and Shelton Benjamin did not qualify for the Continental Classic tournament. Meltzer explained that being part of the tournament requires losing some matches unless you are the eventual winner. He added that Lashley is someone who dislikes losing, even though he claims otherwise, and this is evident in the way he is booked.

In contrast to Lashley, Moné apparently does not have issues with losing or her booking in AEW. According to Meltzer, Moné's lengthy title reigns—over 545 days as TBS Champion and holding 13 belts across various promotions—are not due to a refusal to lose. He emphasized that Moné loses when the time is right and that he has never heard of any problems regarding her doing so. However, other talents are not frequently expected to defeat her.

Meltzer previously reported in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Moné was willing to lose to Athena in the Owen Hart Cup Tournament. Ultimately, Moné won that match and went on to challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women's World Title at All In: Texas, where Storm defeated Moné to retain her title. Additionally, Kris Statlander defeated Moné last weekend at Full Gear to retain her title, although the TBS Title was not on the line.

Meltzer speculated that the situations of Lashley and Benjamin differ from those of Miro and Black, as Miro and Black likely sought to protect their standing before returning to WWE. Meanwhile, he suggested that Lashley and Benjamin currently have no intentions of returning to WWE, considering various factors, including their ages.
