Top WWE star Roman Reigns, known as "The OTC," has emerged victorious in the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble Match, last eliminating GUNTHER to secure a World Championship Match at WrestleMania 42. Reigns will head to The Show of Shows in Las Vegas to challenge a world champion of his choosing. While it is still unclear which champion Reigns will pursue, WWE reportedly has someone specific in mind.
According to PWInsider.com, there has been “heavy discussion” within WWE about a potential WrestleMania program featuring Reigns and CM Punk. The company has long been hinting at a storyline between Reigns and Punk, which began when Punk agreed to join Reigns' team for the WarGames match against Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline in 2024, in exchange for a favor from WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman.
Punk eliminated Reigns from the Men's Royal Rumble Match the previous year and forced Heyman to walk alongside him during a Triple Threat Match against Reigns and Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 41. In that match, Heyman ultimately turned on both Punk and Reigns, siding with Rollins. At last year's Survivor Series: WarGames, Punk and Reigns found themselves allied again as they battled The Vision. After Punk was pinned by Bron Breakker, Reigns had an intense face-off with Cody Rhodes, leading many to believe they were headed for another confrontation at WrestleMania.
However, with Cody recently losing the title to Drew McIntyre and currently embroiled in a heated feud with both McIntyre and Jacob Fatu, the anticipated match between Rhodes and Reigns now seems unlikely. It will be interesting to see if Reigns decides to go after Punk’s title at WrestleMania in Las Vegas. Punk is the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, having won the title last November by defeating Reigns' cousin, Jey Uso. He has since retained it against Bron Breakker, Finn Bálor, and AJ Styles.
