As previously reported, David Finlay made his AEW debut on last week’s Dynamite after leaving NJPW. He signed with AEW and joined his former NJPW stablemates Gabe Kidd and Clark Connors to form a group called The Dogs. It was also mentioned that Finlay had discussions with WWE but chose AEW partly because WWE wanted him to join NXT and was not willing to compromise on that.
Currently, NXT is developing a new stable of second-generation talent known as Birthright. The group recently added Charlie Dempsey, who turned on his former stablemate Tavion Heights after his father, William Regal, appeared alongside Fit Finlay—the father of both David Finlay and Uriah Connors. Birthright already includes Lexis King, TNA Knockouts World Champion Arianna Grace, and Stacks.
In the latest edition of Fightful Select's Q&A, a question arose regarding whether Finlay's decision not to sign with WWE affected plans for Birthright. Sean Ross Sapp noted that as of last week, Birthright is continuing as originally planned. He also stated that he believes Finlay would have almost certainly joined the group had he decided to go to WWE.
