Backstage News On WWE Reportedly Changing The Finish For WrestleMania 42 Night One Main Event

Undisputed WWE Champion "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes successfully retained his title in the main event of WrestleMania 42 Night One this past Saturday. However, it seems that WWE altered its plans for the finish of the main event and opted for a different direction.

According to BodySlam+, sources within WWE revealed that Randy Orton was originally scheduled to win, marking his landmark 15th world title victory at Saturday's event. However, this decision was changed in the weeks leading up to the show. It was noted that WWE anticipated the continuation of the feud between Rhodes and Orton, leading them to decide that Rhodes would retain the title. This explains why WWE orchestrated a post-match angle where Orton attacked Rhodes and delivered his signature punt kick.

The report indicates that this creative decision was intended to align with the newly agreed-upon storyline direction following WrestleMania 42, as they chose not to execute the title change just yet. Rhodes had only recently regained the championship a little over six weeks ago after defeating Drew McIntyre on SmackDown.

Meanwhile, Orton's quest for his 15th world title continues. However, it seems he may get another opportunity to challenge Rhodes, as their feud is expected to carry on.
