Backstage Reaction To AEW Airing Punk/Perry Footage On Dynamite

-- AEW went ahead and aired security footage from All In last year which showed the backstage scuffle between Jack Perry and CM Punk. Reaction to AEW's decision to air the footage has been mixed across the wrestling world and fightfulselect.com has more specific details on how everything was perceived.

-- According to their report, most of the reaction was "very tepid" with many saying what played out is what they expected and simply a ratings ploy by AEW for that one episode. The mood backstage at Dynamite was said to have decreased once the footage aired but mainly because of the expected social media backlash that was likely to come from it.

-- Tony Khan reportedly came up with the idea to air the footage following CM Punk's interview with Ariel Helwani along with the multiple shots towards AEW and some of their wrestlers (Triple H comments, Michael Cole & Pat McAfee's shots) simply cemented the fact that Khan was going to go through with it. By the end of last week, the creative for the video was confirmed and a decision was made to immediately promote it once WrestleMania was in the books.

-- The Young Bucks were obviously heavily involved in the segment and reports that they were against it were untrue as they were said to be fine doing the angle. FTR, who are close friends with Punk, were given a heads up about the decision to air the clip and were also said to have been okay with it given that it was reasoned that it would add to their storyline and create more buzz.

-- Within WWE, nobody was really surprised at the footage and Punk's status with the company is completely unaffected by the content of the video as the fightful report confirmed that he is not getting scolded or otherwise punished in any way. Some people felt the video was a "self own" while others stated that they didn't care but ended up watching it out of curiosity. Another common belief was that it was no big deal and nothing worse than stuff that happened during the WWF-WCW Monday Night wars.
