– Tony Khan recently announced his purchase of Ring of Honor, which came as a surprise to many in WWE, who also had discussions recently to purchase the promotion. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one person who has knowledge of WWE’s attempts to also buy ROH noted that it was a “smart move” by Khan and even smarter “counter move” to capitalize on WWE “fumbling the ball” on the purchase.
– The same person also felt that AEW buying ROH would never have happened if Paul “HHH” Levesque was still around and involved as extensively as he used to be. Apart from the complete, and thus far unsuccessful overhaul to NXT, it is believed that Levesque would have ensured that WWE pushed through and finalized purchasing ROH. Levesque actually first flirted with the idea of this purchase way back in 2018 when Vince McMahon was instead considering trying to make a pitch for New Japan.
