Backstage Rumor On WWE Star Asuka Suggests She Has "Semi-Retired"

WWE superstar Asuka wrestled long time rival IYO SKY last night at WWE Backlash and came out on the losing end, but it was things that happened following the match that have fans and analysts talking.

After the loss, Asuka got teary-eyed and embraced SKY as they put their months long feud on the back burner. On social media, multiple stars then started posting tributes to Asuka, which had many speculating on her future with WWE.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer suggested that according to rumors backstage, Asuka is now "semi-retired" though it's unclear what that exactly means. Meltzer shared this uncertainty saying that he doesn't know whether Asuka will go to Japan and wrestle there, or stay in North America and continue to work for WWE but on a less frequent rate. However, he noted that the story backstage is that she is semi-retired and people were seen wishing her goodbye.

On the post-WWE Backlash edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that while he has not received details on what semi-retired means in Asuka’s case, people were wishing her goodbye backstage.

Later in the show, Meltzer and co-host Bryan Alvarez discussed the possibility of Asuka perhaps being part of the recent WWE roster cuts, especially with her tag team partner Kairi Sane let go, but no one is able to confirm that at the moment.

Asuka has been with WWE for over a decade and has become one of the most decorated and successful stars during that time, winning several titles in WWE and NXT along the way as well as the Money in the Bank and Royal Rumble as well.
