As previously reported, former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion David Finlay is exploring options outside of NJPW, as his contract with the company is set to expire soon. According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select last month, WWE is interested in signing Finlay and has discussed his name internally.
Fightful Select also reports that while there has been some contact between David Finlay and WWE, details about their interaction and the outcomes of their discussions remain unclear. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Finlay has been an important part of NJPW since 2015, competing in over 800 matches for the promotion. He has held the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title twice, and in addition, he is a one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion, a one-time NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champion, and a one-time NEVER Openweight Champion. Finlay won the New Japan Cup last year and also claimed the World Tag League title in 2019, alongside Juice Robinson.
