As previously reported, WWE legend and 17-time World Champion John Cena is scheduled to appear at WWE Backlash this Saturday. Earlier this week, Cena announced on his Twitter (X) account that he has “history-making” news to share with fans during the premium live event.
This news surprised fans, especially since Cena had just hosted two nights of WrestleMania 42. Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer later reported that Cena's current contract with WWE requires him to make a specific number of television appearances. Cena signed on as WWE's Ambassador ahead of his farewell match against GUNTHER last December at Saturday Night's Main Event.
According to BodySlam+, with the 2026 Backlash PLE taking place in Tampa, Florida, where Cena also resides, it’s convenient for him to attend. The report also indicated that both parties reached a deal a few weeks ago before Cena made the announcement on social media.
