Backstage Update On The New Day’s WWE Exit And Reports Suggesting More Releases Could Follow

The post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts by WWE have generated significant discussion in recent weeks. The most surprising revelation was that The New Day, comprised of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, had parted ways with the company over the weekend. This development was particularly shocking because the duo had signed multi-year contracts just last year. In addition to Kingston and Woods, JC Mateo and Tonga Loa were also released.

Reports later surfaced indicating that Kingston and Woods were dissatisfied with the terms of the restructured deal proposed by TKO, including a pay cut. After expressing their concerns, they were granted their release. Furthermore, more than a dozen other main roster wrestlers were let go from their contracts late last month.

Bryan Alvarez discussed this situation in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio. He mentioned that the New Day's departure was known before it was officially announced. He had been in communication with someone during the initial roster cuts and learned that Kingston and Woods were being discussed as potential cuts. Initially, he and others couldn't believe that The New Day would be released, but just a week later, the shocking news was confirmed.

Alvarez also indicated that more releases might occur, mentioning that there are other wrestlers who were discussed but remain under contract for now. He expressed concern about several talents after watching SmackDown, suggesting that further announcements of releases could be forthcoming.
