As previously reported, pro wrestling veteran Steve Maclin participated in a Feast or Fired Match against several other TNA stars, where he captured a briefcase during the post-Genesis episode of iMPACT on AMC. It was revealed the following week that he obtained the "fired" briefcase.
A few days later, it was noted that Maclin was being quite reserved about the situation, leading several sources within TNA to believe that he might be leaving the company. However, he worked the tapings the next day and, while saying farewell to the TNA roster, he attacked Mike Santana.
According to PWInsider.com, despite the angle involving Santana, Maclin was not actually released from the company; this turn of events is part of a "complete storyline." It is speculated that Maclin is set for a program with Santana, who is the current TNA World Champion, though this plan has not yet been confirmed. In January, it was reported that Maclin signed an extension to his contract with TNA.
The situation regarding Maclin's supposed firing being a storyline is not unprecedented. A similar occurrence took place in 2016 with Grado, in 2015 with Velvet Sky, and with Christopher Daniels and his alter ego Curry Man in 2007 and 2008, respectively. Other instances of Feast or Fired matches have indeed resulted in the "fired" individuals being legitimately released.
