Backstage Update On Where John Cena vs. GUNTHER Will Be Slotted On The WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Card

WWE legend and 17-time World Champion John Cena personally expressed his desire for his match against "The Ring General" GUNTHER to open this weekend's Saturday Night's Main Event special during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

However, Dave Meltzer mentioned on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that the match order for Saturday Night's Main Event is still "not determined" and is "under discussion." He also highlighted comments from Joe Tessitore, which suggest that the Cena vs. GUNTHER match could potentially close the show, followed by post-show coverage.

According to Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, the majority of people within WWE prefer the Cena vs. GUNTHER match to be the main event. Nevertheless, both options—opening and closing the show—are still being considered. The report confirmed that no firm details about the match placement have been finalized, aligning with Meltzer's earlier findings, and indicated that the possibility of Cena vs. GUNTHER opening Saturday Night's Main Event is still "on the table."

This means that the WWE Universe will have to wait to find out the order of Cena's final match, as WWE has not yet announced which match will start or close this weekend's special. WWE Saturday Night's Main Event is scheduled for Saturday, December 13th, at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. It will be broadcast live on Peacock in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
