As previously reported, Kairi Sane was among those released by WWE last Friday as part of their latest roster cuts. This news was particularly shocking because Sane was actively involved in a significant storyline featuring IYO SKY and Asuka, and she had even competed on the previous week’s episode of RAW.
During last Monday’s RAW, fans were chanting, "We Want Kairi," expressing their disappointment over her departure. The hashtag “#WeWantKairi” quickly became a trending topic on Twitter (X) following the announcement of her release.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Sane had hinted that she wanted to move back to Japan. Following her release, she indeed returned to her home country.
Both Meltzer and co-host Bryan Alvarez questioned why Sane didn’t remain in the U.S. longer to properly conclude her storyline with SKY and Asuka, especially since her former stablemates are scheduled to face each other in a singles match at WWE Backlash next month. There is no additional information on why Sane was unable to stay longer in the U.S. to wrap up her storyline or to find a more suitable way to write her off WWE programming.
Sane had previously exited WWE in December 2021 after her contract expired and became an ambassador for the promotion overseas. However, she made her in-ring return to WWE about two years later in November 2023, making her comeback at Crown Jewel that year and rejoining Damage CTRL.
