WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch and AJ Lee have not had a long singles program on the main roster since Lee's departure from WWE in 2015. However, it seems we might be headed toward a rematch between the two at WrestleMania 42, following their confrontation at the Elimination Chamber for Lynch's Intercontinental Championship.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has had an internal plan since late January for Lynch and Lee to face off at the Elimination Chamber, followed by a rematch at WrestleMania 42. Meltzer noted that it was indicated to him that this approach would “make sense” in the end. By scheduling the title defense at Elimination Chamber, WWE can explore the dynamic between the two competitors while leaving the door open for a larger follow-up at WrestleMania 42.
Lynch is currently the Women’s Intercontinental Champion and has been positioned as a central figure on the company's weekly programming.
