WWE WrestleMania 42 is scheduled to take place in about a month, yet "The Ring General," GUNTHER, still hasn't secured a match for the event. Known as the "Career Killer," GUNTHER has made headlines recently by defeating WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg and John Cena in their respective farewell matches at Saturday Night's Main Events, and by retiring AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble earlier this year. Given his recent accomplishments, it’s surprising that his opponent for Las Vegas remains unknown.
After retiring Styles in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, GUNTHER began a storyline with Styles’ former tag team partner, Dragon Lee, who confronted GUNTHER for showing disrespect to The Phenomenal One. Following a brutal beatdown from GUNTHER, Lee gained retribution by preventing GUNTHER from competing in the Men's Elimination Chamber Match in Chicago. This resulted in a one-on-one match between the two on the March 2 episode of RAW, which GUNTHER won.
According to BodySlam+, WWE sources indicate that this mini feud was intended to set up a WrestleMania 42 program between GUNTHER and WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. However, the report also noted that GUNTHER's WrestleMania 42 plans are uncertain due to Mysterio suffering a rib injury during a match against Austin Theory in late January. Unless Mysterio receives medical clearance in time, it is unclear whether GUNTHER will compete at the Show of Shows.
