ROH and GCW World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes (Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe) recently appeared on Busted Open Radio and talked about how when you have a person who is a non wrestling fan watch a show you have to show them what wrestling is really about and they believe what they do in a pro wrestling ring is what wrestling needs right now.
Jay Briscoe said:
“When people are sitting around, and you’ve got a wrestling fan that has wrestling on TV, and he has his friends over and there not wrestling fans. What are you going to show them to get them to become wrestling fans? You can’t be showing them this clown s--t, man.” “You’ve got to show them something that they can get into, some real s--t.”
Mark Briscoe added:
“And professional wrestling as we all know, there’s so many different flavors of professional wrestling.” “But you can’t have certain flavors showcased for such a high percentage of the time. You’ve got to have a fight, that’s what wrestling is, a fight. That’s got to be your staple, that’s got to be your backbone. Your backbone can’t be comedy or this that and the other you’ve got to have fighters out there.”
The Briscoes also talked about ROH's hiatus and their thoughts on the situation.
Mark Briscoe said:
“It’s an unfortunate situation. I especially feel bad for our friends, the guys and girls, that might not get an opportunity to work somewhere else. They really need to get back on the grind. That sucks. It’s taking money out of people’s pockets, but it is what it is. You can’t look back. You have to make the best of it.”
Jay Briscoe added:
“You have to roll with the punches. It’s always glass half full. It has to be. Don’t get me wrong, it was a sudden shock. It really was, but you have to roll with the punches.”
The Briscoes then spoke about the possibility of not getting enough TV time in All Elite Wrestling if they were to sign with them.
Mark Briscoe said:
“I think once we make that splash, they’re going to want to see it again. I’m not really too worried about that. At the end of the day, we’re providing for our family, so we have to do what we have to do, but I don’t think we have to worry about riding the bench.”
