Comcast Credits WWE For Boosting Peacock Sign-Ups During Q1 2021

Comcast indicated on their Q1 2021 earnings report that Peacock has added about 9 million total sign-ups during the first three months of 2021 and they are crediting the WWE and The Office with this big boost in sign-ups. The Peacock streaming platform now has a total of 42 million members in the United States, but that does not include a breakdown of how many sign-ups are for the free tier and the paid tier.

The only mention Comcast made of WWE in their Q1 2021 earnings report was in the highlights, when the company said the following, “Peacock Has 42 Million Sign-Ups to Date Across the U.S., Benefiting from the Recent Addition of Exclusive Domestic Streaming Rights to WWE Network and The Office”

According to The Verge, the 9 million new sign-ups looks a bit concerning as it came during a quarter where they added two huge names, WWE and The Office. A total of 11 million new sign-ups were added by Peacock last quarter, while a total of 10 million new sign-ups were added by Peacock even before they fully launched the service. Peacock reportedly expects to have the full WWE library available to view in time for the SummerSlam PPV in August. The WWE Network launched and became exclusive on Peacock on March 18th, while The Office was added to Peacock on January 1st.
