Drew McIntyre Recalls Vince McMahon Assigning Undertaker As His Mentor

Drew McIntyre recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated for an in-depth interview covering all things pro wrestling and WWE.

During the discussion, "The Scottish Warrior" spoke about being comfortable as a performer and knowing his goals, being assigned Undertaker as a mentor by Vince McMahon and the upcoming WWE Clash at the Castle.

Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview where he touches on these topics with his thoughts.

On being comfortable as a performer and knowing what he wants to accomplish: “I’m at a point now where, when I walk out, there is no panic. I know exactly what I want to accomplish. I don’t play Drew McIntyre. I am Drew McIntyre.”

On being assigned The Undertaker as a mentor by Vince McMahon: “As Undertaker once told me, ‘Don’t play the wrestler. Be the wrestler. At the time, ’Taker was my mentor, a role assigned by Vince [McMahon], and I had no idea what he was talking about. I was a wrestler, obviously, right? Now, almost 15 years later, I have a much different appreciation for his lessons. I know who I am every time I step out there, and I know what I’m aiming for; and that’s Roman.”

On how if built correctly, his journey will see him prove in the next two months he is the clear-cut most-compelling opponent for Roman Reigns in Cardiff at WWE Clash at the Castle: “That’s my goal. I’m putting in the work to get there.”
