Edge Addresses Toronto Crowd After WWE Smackdown; Stops Short of Announcing Retirement

-- Following tonight's Friday Night Smackdown, which many suspected could be the last match for Edge in WWE, the Hall of Famer addressed the Toronto audience, noting that it was his last match in the city but stopped short of announcing his retirement. Edge grew up in nearby Orangeville, ON. He also gave props to his long time trainer Ron Hutchison.

"I don't know what the future holds, I really don't. I've got to sit home this week and lick my wounds, talk to my family and see what they want me to do. But what I can say Toronto is thank you. Thank you for being the city that I have always been proud to represent, that I've always been proud to be announced from. And I came out here in full-on Maple Leafs gear, pandering to all of you. But no matter where I make my main residence, this is always first in my heart. I am Canadian first and foremost, and I am so damn proud of that."

"Toronto, what I can say is this is my last time in front of you all. I don't think I can make it another forum to get here for another match, I'm just being honest with you. But don't let that be a downer. Cuz man, what an experience you all gave me. I will never forget it. And when I'm 84 years old and don't remember much, you're damn sure I'm gonna remember this. Thank you."

-- Earlier this week, Edge caused waves when he revealed that this match was the last on his WWE contract, fueling speculation that he would be retiring after a perfectly timed match in his neighborhood. However, the context of his revelation definitely left open the possibility that he could sign another contract or extension with WWE or as rumors have suggested, perhaps even look at AEW as an alternative. Edge returned to WWE in 2020 after nearly a decade long hiatus where he was medically disqualified from wrestling due to a serious neck injury.
