WWE Hall of Famer and former WCW President Eric Bischoff recently made an appearance on the Under The Ring podcast, where he spoke about what he believes was the legacy of WCW that was the reason for the company to not only go head to head with the WWE and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, but to dominate them in television ratings for 83 weeks.
According to Bischoff, he wanted to do something different than the WWE and that was to go live as at the time the WWE was taped.
Eric Bischoff said:
“I stopped on that bridge and had a conversation with myself in my head and I knew right then in that moment that the only way to be successful was to be different than WWE.” “I sat down with a pen and paper and I made a list of all the ways I could be different than WWE … WWE was taped, alright I’m going live, I’ve always believed that live television was better than taped television anyway, but now I had a reason to do it and I could justify it, because it’s more expensive.”
