Former NWA Star Buddy Colt Recently Passed Away At The Age Of 81

It was recently reported by the official Twitter account of the Cauliflower Alley Club that wrestling legend Buddy Colt (real name: Ron Read) passed away at the age of 81 this past Friday. Buddy Colt was affiliated with a number of pro wrestling companies throughout his career, including the NWA.

In 1962, Buddy Colt began his career in pro wrestling and became one of the top heels in the business during the 70s. Colt was recognized as one of the greatest heels in the history of wrestling, but was forced to retire in 1975 due to a plane crash. In his 13 years in the wrestling business, he captured six NWA Georgia Heavyweight Titles and four NWA Florida Heavyweight Titles, among others.

When Buddy Colt started his pro wrestling career in Nashville, he was introduced as “Cowboy” Ron Reed and quickly began to make a name for himself and make an appearance in a number of territories, which includes the WWWF in 1963. Aside from his career as a pro wrestler, Colt reportedly had a strong judo background and was also a bodybuilder.
