Former WCW US Champion Steve "Mongo" McMichael Enters Hospice Care

Former WCW United States Champion and NFL legend Steve "Mongo" McMichael is being taken off a ventilator in the ICU entering and instead will enter hospice care as he continues to battle amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), according to multiple sources.

McMichael, a star defensive tackle with the Chicago Bears, was diagnosed with ALS back in 2021. The disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control. It has no cure and left McMichael bedridden and unable to speak.

To wrestling fans, McMichael is known for his time in WCW as a wrestler and commentator in the 1990s. Apart from winning the WCW US Title, he was a member of the Four Horsemen alongside friend Ric Flair. McMichael realized his life long dream and entered the NFL Hall of Fame in 2024.

McMichael's wife Misty told the media that "As of today, Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox has recommended to the family to transfer Steve into a Joliet hospice facility this afternoon. He’s been unresponsive for last two weeks and in and out of the hospital. He’s currently in the ICU at Silver Cross."
