Cliff Compton, frequently known as former WWE Superstar Domino, recently sat down for an interview with Lucha Libre Online. During the interview, the former WWE Tag Team Champion gave some insight into the way Vince McMahon thought his character should work in the ring, and shared his opinion on the chairman’s views. Compton told Lucha Libre:
"It was so cool to me because our styles couldn't be any more different (compared to Paul London & Brian Kendrick). They were the clean-cut baby faces who could do all these incredible moves, and with Deuce & Domino, the office or Vince in particular, he didn't want us doing a lot of moves. He was like: ‘You guys are Brawlers. You kick, punch, you rake the eyes’. He didn't see Deuce and Domino as being seasoned wrestlers who could do fancy moves. He's like: ‘That's not very realistic’. And we agreed. Some people might have said: ‘Well, they're not very good wrestlers’. But the characters were guys from technically the other side of the tracks. We were thugs. We were Brawlers”.
Domino, who wrestled alongside his tag team partner Duece, and their valet Cherry, also took some time to talk about working outside of WWE. Before working for the company, Domino met up with current WWE Superstar Kevin Owens. Owens went by Kevin Steen at the time, and Domino spoke at-length about Steen. Domino explained:
“I had a lot of fun. It's interesting how I got in there. I was friends with Kevin Steen or Kevin Owens and he had this idea. He was doing this group called Scum. If you remember, Matt Hardy was in it and a couple of other guys. He said: ‘Hey, I think you should be in this group’. At that time, I’ve never done anything with Ring of Honor”.
The man from “the other side of the tracks” continued to talk about Steen, and also spoke about his time working in a stable known as “Scum”. When speaking about being a part of the group, Domino told the interviewer:
"I remember I had an indie show the night before and I drove to Chicago. It was snowing. Those crowds were a lot of fun. Very rowdy. Nobody knew. I came in at the end. I threw some powder. I don't know in whose eyes, but the whole crowd, was like, whoa. It was a lot of fun. And then from there we stayed in Scum. I think Rhyno joined, and then eventually, me and Kevin Steen at the time got into a big big rivalry”.
