Friday Night Smackdown Quick Recap for 1/15/2020
Matches Tonight:
- Shinsuke Nakamura, now a face and with his old music, defeated "Main Event" Jey Uso.
- Natalya with Tamina defeated Liv Morgan with the Riott Squad (Ruby Riott and, for this week at least, Billie Kay).
- King Corbin defeated Rey Mysterio after Dominick Mysterio inadvertently caused a distraction.
- Cesaro defeated Daniel Bryan clean in single's competition.
- In our main event, Apollo Crews defeated Sami Zayn. Zayn attempted to use the tights but the ref caught him; Crews then used the tights to hold Zayn in the roll-up pin, unnoticed by the ref, to steal the win.
- They've begun planting the seeds of a Nakamura/Cesaro split.
- Roman Reigns refused to sign the contract twice (regarding his match at the Royal Rumble against Adam Pearce). He wanted it updated to include a stipulation. First it was changed to a No DQ match, then a Last Man Standing match. (More below)
- We saw more of the Alpha Academy--Chad Gable training Otis and Daniel Bryan for the Royal Rumble.
- The first episode of Bayley's new talk show, Ding Dong, Hello aired with its first guest being Bianca Belair. Things went south and both women will compete on an obstacle course next week.
- Big E stretched out on a big white sofa at ringside during the Zayn/Crews match, joining commentary comfortably. After the match, he and Crews exchanged words yet again, with Big E promising Crews would never touch the Intercontinental Title again.
- Later in the night, it was made official: Big E(c) vs Apollo Crews for the Intercontinental Championship next Friday on Smackdown!
- We ended our show with the contract signing. Roman Reigns will face Adam Pearce in a Last Man Standing match at the Royal Rumble for the WWE Universal Championship. Pearce goaded Roman into signing the contract then left the ring with a smirk. He pretended to injure his knee while heading up the ramp and said that it's his responsibility as a WWE official to find a suitable replacement--and that man is Kevin Owens. Owens vs Reigns III: Last Man Standing at the Royal Rumble.
