Friday Night SmackDown Quick Recap for April 8, 2022

Matches Tonight: Four (approx. 24 minutes)
  • Singles In-Ring Debut Match: "the Butcherweight" Pete Dunne(d) w/ Ridge Holland & Sheamus vs Xavier Woods w/ Kofi Kingston. If you don't know, Pete Dunne is now "Butch" but in protest, and solidarity with Ukraine, I refuse to acknowledge stupid name changes until the people are free. Woods won with a small package roll-up, and a pissed Butch butted heads with his friends post-match. 8:17-8:28pm EST.
  • Singles Debut Match: WALTER (Gunther) w/ Marcel Barthel (Ludwig Kaiser) vs Joe Alonzo. WALTER squashed the local talent completely. 8:45-8:47pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Drew McIntyre vs Sami Zayn. Zayn lost by count-out as he refused to fight Drew. 9:12-9:15pm EST.
  • Singles Main Event Match: Sasha Banks w/ Naomi vs Liv Morgan. More plot was established, hinting at a dissolution of the Ripley/Morgan team if they don't win Monday's tag title match. Morgan stole a win after rolling through a Superplex. Solid match. 9:35-9:42pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • WrestleMania Backlash Card Update: Ronda challenged Flair to an "I Quit" match, and Pearce made it official after pressure from Ronda. 8:06-8:11pm EST.
  • RIP Imperium: Both WALTER and Barthel have been called up to the main roster, and both men have matching stupid names. WALTER is Gunther and Marcel Barthel is Ludwig Kaiser. Optics...
  • Call-Ups: Raquel Gonzalez (now, Raquel Rodriguez) was called up (and hit upon by Los Lotharios); WALTER (now, Gunther) and Marcel Barthel (now, Ludwig Kaiser) all made their debuts.
  • RIP the Happy Folk: During a final episode (presumably) of Happy Talk, Corbin turned on Moss--jealousy and bad jokes, etc. Moss fought Corbin off, successfully battling Corbin out of the ring, destroying the set, and sending Sappy Corbin packing up the ramp. The crowd was really behind Moss. 8:56-9:03pm EST.
  • Lacey Evans Returns: Evans cut an emotional promo about her real-life hardships growing up, all leading to her decision to join the USMC. She now wears more modern-themed clothing instead of the vintage "bombshell" outfit.
  • Next Week on SmackDown: Ricochet defends his Intercontinental Championship against Jinder Mahal with Shanky.
  • Undisputed WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion: Entrance began at 9:44, reached the ring and began speaking at 9:51, and announced his intention to have the Usos unify the tag team titles. Shinsuke Nakamura made his way out to a hot reaction from the hot crowd--they were into the show all night, God bless 'em. Shin ended up eating stereo Superkicks from the Usos. Pointless segment other than announcing the title bit. 9:50-9:57pm EST.
