This past Saturday night at WWE SummerSlam Night One, "The Ring General" GUNTHER lost the World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk.
Dave Meltzer discussed this on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, revealing that GUNTHER has been written off WWE TV as he is scheduled to undergo surgery on his broken nose, which he sustained during the match. Meltzer mentioned that he received information about GUNTHER's surgery a couple of days prior.
During his match on Saturday, GUNTHER experienced a bloody nose, which appeared to be part of the storyline. Meltzer confirmed that this was a way to explain his absence from television while he recovers from surgery. Ultimately, GUNTHER lost the match after taking back-to-back Go 2 Sleeps. Following his loss, Seth Rollins surprised the fans by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Punk to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
