Raquel Gonzalez. Remember the name, as Gonzalez continues to make
history, no better yet HERstory in NXT over the last several months.
In what proved to be an incredible match filled with high spots, Gonzalez defeated Io Shirai to become the new NXT Women’s Champion and breaking Shirai’s 300+ day run as champ.

Gonzalez along with Dakota Kai won the first-ever Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in February and were eventually crowned the first NXT women's tag team champions on March 11th (though they DID drop the titles to Blackheart and Moon later that same night). Then again tonight at WWE NXT TakeOver: Stand And Deliver (Night One) Gonzalez again left her imprint on the brand as she earned the Women's NXT Championship after defeating The Genius Of The Sky, Io Shirai!
That isn't to say Io Shirai didn't hold her own throughout the match, with massive high flying maneuvers such as leaping off the 20ft skull at the top of the stage, landing on Gonzalez and the metal grate beneath them. Shirai thought she had the match all wrapped up as she dragged Gonzalez back to the ring and delivered a Back Moonsault for good measure before a pin attempt that Gonzalez ultimately kicked out of!
Gonzalez shouted, "What's it going to take to keep you down?! What's it going to take?" as Shirai made her way back to her feet. Moments later Gonzalez would turn Shirai inside out with a Clothesline before delivering a One-Armed Body Slam to Shirai for the three count pin and win victory! Gonzalez was in tears as she was handed the NXT Women's Championship belt, shouting, "I told you, I told you all!" as she held the title high in the air on the ramp to close Night One of NXT TakeOver: Stand and Deliver.
