Huge Championship Match Added To WWE's Clash At The Castle Event

Last night's 1200th episode of WWE SmackDown saw a Fatal 5-Way Match take place between Sheamus, Sami Zayn, Happy Corbin, Ricochet and Madcap Moss, where the winner will move on to the WWE's Clash At The Castle Premium Live Event to challenge GUNTHER for his WWE Intercontinental Championship. The matchup ended with Sheamus hitting Corbin with a Brogue Kick to secure the win and earn a title shot from The Ring General. Later in the broadcast, WWE confirmed that GUNTHER will defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship against Sheamus at WWE Clash At The Castle.

The Clash At The Castle Event will mark the third time GUNTHER has defended his championship since he defeated Ricochet on the June 10th episode of WWE SmackDown, but this will be the first time that the WWE Intercontinental Championship is defended at a PPV or a Premium Live Event since WWE WrestleMania 37 in April of 2021, when Apollo Crews won the title from Big E in a Nigerian Drum Fight.

WWE's Clash at The Castle is set to take place on Saturday, September 3rd inside Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
