Huge Mixed Tag Team Match Announced For The 2022 WWE Royal Rumble Event

A huge match announcement was recently made by the WWE for their upcoming 2022 Royal Rumble Event. It was announced that WWE Hall of Famers Edge and Beth Phoenix will be taking on The Miz and Maryse in a Mixed Tag Team Match, which the WWE has billed as The IT Couple vs. The GRIT Couple.

The rivalry between "The Rated R Superstar" Edge and The Miz began several years ago, but was renewed several weeks ago on RAW, when Edge made his way down to the ring and talked about his dream matchups and made no mention of The A-Lister. The Miz and Maryse have since been getting the best of Edge each and every Monday night on RAW, with the exception of last week's RAW episode, when The Miz and Maryse received a brood bath courtesy of The Rated R Superstar.

This past Saturday night’s WWE Day 1 Event then saw WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix make her return to WWE, when she made her way down to the ring and chased away Maryse to the ramp, which would provide a distraction and allow Edge to defeat The Miz in Singles action. Last night's RAW episode then saw The Miz and Maryse complain about what happened at Day 1, but were interrupted by the WWE Hall of Famers. Edge and Beth would then issue a challenge to The It Couple for Royal Rumble, which Miz accepted, but that did not sit well with Maryse. The segment would then end with Beth Phoenix knocking Maryse down, then Maryse making her way to the back as The Miz begged her to relax.

The match at the 2022 WWE Royal Rumble PPV Event will be Maryse's first match since the 2018 WWE Hall In A Cell Event, when she teamed with The Miz to defeat Daniel Bryan and WWE Hall of Famer Brie Bella in Mixed Tag Team action, while Beth Phoenix's last match took place at the 2020 Royal Rumble Event.

The 2022 WWE Royal Rumble PPV Event is set to take place on Saturday, January 29th inside The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
