Kazuchika Okada has made history as the first AEW Continental Champion to hold the title for over a year.
Okada captured the championship from Eddie Kingston on the March 20, 2024 episode of AEW Dynamite. Since then, he has successfully defended the title against top competitors like Brody King, Buddy Matthews, Bryan Danielson, and others. Now, he is celebrating a milestone, marking one full year as champion.
Throughout the past year, Okada has defended the Continental Championship 11 times, including a successful title defense during the Continental Classic Tournament.
Rumors have circulated that AEW plans to combine the Continental and International Championship titles. If so, this would put Okada up against his old NJPW nemesis, Kenny Omega.
