Even Superman had to take his cape off every now and then and be plain old Clark Kent.
After failing to pull off another spectacular physical feat to avoid elimination in a Royal Rumble match on Saturday night, Kofi Kingston took to social media to comment on the unfortunate circumstances that played out during his latest attempt.
During the 35th annual Men's Royal Rumble match at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, Missouri this past weekend, the former WWE Champion was launched over the top-rope and out to the ringside area, where he attempted to Spiderman-cling to the barricade to avoid being eliminated.
Unfortunately for the New Day member was having more of a Clark Kent night than a Superman one.
Kingston would sail from the ring to the barricade and try his best to hang on, only to wind up with his feet touching the surface of the ground outside of the ring. What had become an annual tradition from the longtime WWE veteran didn't go as planned and as a result of it being featured prominently on the live broadcast, the call was made to treat the situation like the shoot that it was.
Kofi Kingston was eliminated instead of an on-the-fly call such as the one WWE made with the Shawn Michaels situation in 1995 when he was tossed over the top and his feet grazed the floor, prompting the decision-makers at the time to have referees review the slow-motion replay.
After the show, Kingston took to social media to comment on giving the spot his best shot at the 35th annual Royal Rumble match in St. Louis, MO. this past Saturday night.
"Welp," Kingston wrote via his official Twitter page. He followed up by referencing the cliched quote that states, "It is better to try and fail than never to try at all."
