Konnan Details Incident Where Tony Khan Got Upset At Him; Says AEW Is Difficult To Work With

-- In recent times, there appears to be no love lost between former WCW wrestler Konnan and AEW head honcho Tony Khan with Konnan recently stating on his podcast that Khan warned his wrestlers about watching WWE's 2023 Royal Rumble where Cody Rhodes debut. Now Konnan is sharing even more details on his tumultuous relationship with Khan.

-- Speaking on his Keepin' It 100 podcast, Konnan opened up about where tension between him Khan first began, pin-pointing it to an incident in 2022 when Khan pulled Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo from AAA's Nocho de Campeones event despite previously approving their usage. The reason is that another female wrestler on the AEW roster ended up with COVID and Khan was insistent on using Melo as a replacement. Konnan went on to say that he doesn't even understand why Khan couldn't use any other female wrestler with so many on his roster while detailing how the AEW President got very upset when he referred to the sick wrestler as "a chick."

"Tony got really, really mad about this and I can’t even believe he got mad. So at that time, one of the females...I'm still not gonna say the name...had (COVID). So he says 'Well since this girl has (COVID), I need to use Tay'...I was thinking to myself, you’ve got so many girls but you’re going to use her.. okay. And then I said on the podcast, I go ‘some chick got (COVID)’ because I’m pretty sure he didn’t want me to say the name. And when he saw me, he goes, ‘What do you mean some chick?’ Like, oh give me a break, dude. So, would you rather have had me say the name?’ Which he didn't want to get out there because it wasn't out there."

-- Konnan then went further, claiming that AEW is very difficult to work with because they're "expensive" and Khan has a habit of pulling his talent out of events at the last minute, noting that he has done it at least a half dozen times and that his promotion AAA doesn't need them.

"We’ve been selling out everywhere. We don’t even need AEW, and they’re expensive and it’s hard to deal with them because they pull ’em out at the last minute. I see they haven’t had that problem with Arena Mexico. Whether he’s trying to stick it up… because I don’t put over his thing or he’s just having a good business relationship and it’s easier to work with them, I have no idea."

-- Konnan then ended the podcast with what seemed like a bit of a warning to Khan and AEW:

"I’m going to be very vague with what I’m about to tell you and remember I said it today and very soon you’ll find out what I’m talking about, what comes around goes around. And when it happens, you’re going to go, ‘Okay, now I see what you’re talking about.’ So, have your little fun while you can."
