Current AEW Trios Champion Powerhouse Hobbs is reportedly done with the company and headed to WWE.
A series of reports emerged over the last day indicating that Hobbs wrapped up his commitments with AEW on Wednesday and effectively became a free agent yesterday with intentions of signing with WWE, who have long had interest in securing his services. With his deal simply expiring, there is no non-compete clause in effect and Hobbs could in theory appear on WWE as early as tonight's Smackdown.
On the latest WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, it is believed that if/when Hobbs debuts with WWE, he will get an altered name, though it could possibly be only a slight change with simply "Hobbs" as an option. It is believed he would join the main roster rather than join NXT.
Meanwhile, Sean Ross Sapp reported that contract negotiations between Hobbs and AEW began negotiations on a new contract months ago and those talks continued all the way up to this week. The offers extended by AEW were reported to be massive but at some point, Hobbs made up his mind that he was going to test free agency and tried not to burn any bridges on the way out.
