Latest Update On AEW Star Buddy Matthews’ Injury Status

As previously reported, AEW star Buddy Matthews announced in August that he needed surgery to repair a broken ankle sustained in February at Grand Slam Australia while facing Kazuchika Okada. The injury occurred during his entrance, and in December, he revealed that he was still experiencing nerve issues and numbness around the ankle as he continues to recover.

Sean Ross Sapp addressed Matthews' injury status in the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers, responding to a fan inquiry. According to Sapp, the injury was more severe than initially believed, especially since Matthews competed in a full match on the injured ankle. Sapp also mentioned that Matthews is still working on his recovery. Although there were hopes within AEW that he might return by the end of 2025, it is clear that this timeline is no longer feasible.

Currently, AEW does not have a specific timetable for Matthews’ return. However, updates will be provided as they become available.
