Latest Update On Cody Rhodes’ Status After Suffering A Brutal Eye Injury

As previously reported, Undisputed WWE Champion "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes suffered a significant eye injury during his title match against "The Viper" Randy Orton at WWE WrestleMania 42 Night One on Saturday, which Rhodes ultimately won.

After the match, his eye was swollen shut, and it was speculated that the injury occurred either from a punch thrown by Orton during a slugfest or from the spot involving the Cody Cutter into the RKO.

WWE announced that Rhodes required three sutures for his facial injury and four staples to the back of his head, having sustained severe damage to his orbital socket. Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer that WWE placed Rhodes in their concussion protocol, although the general belief backstage is that he did not suffer a concussion; being placed in the protocol was a precautionary measure.

Meltzer also stated that, at this time, it appears that Rhodes did not fracture his orbital bone, an injury that would have sidelined him for an extended period. It is currently uncertain whether Rhodes will be able to compete at WWE Backlash on May 9th, as WWE continues to evaluate his condition.
