A report from last month indicated that despite WWE legend Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who is also a TKO board member, advocating for a character change, WWE has no plans to turn Cody Rhodes heel in the near future. Several reasons contributed to this decision, including the significant live gate revenue, merchandise sales, and ticket sales generated by Rhodes as a babyface.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, even though Rhodes received boos during his matches against John Cena leading up to WrestleMania, his creative direction remains unchanged. The report emphasized that WWE is not planning to turn Rhodes heel in the short term. A few months ago, the decision was made to keep him as a babyface, a move that some critics viewed as highly questionable.
Currently, Rhodes is scheduled to face Jey Uso on Monday’s episode of RAW in a King of the Ring semifinal match. If he wins, he will advance to face Randy Orton at Night of Champions next Saturday in Saudi Arabia.
