WWE recently had their latest round of talent releases, which came from the WWE NXT brand and a total of 15 talents, including 14 wrestlers and 1 referee was part of the releases, and one of the wrestler that was released was none other than Mercedes Martinez. Martinez first competed for WWE back in 2017 and 2018, when she worked the Mae Young Classic Tournaments. She would then sign with the WWE back in January of 2020 and has really made a name for herself since.
Martinez last competed for the WWE on the June 29th NXT episode when she and Jake Atlas, who was also released by WWE last Friday, lost to Xia Li and Boa in a Mixed Tag Team Match. The match saw Martinez suffer a concussion and she was then taken to a local medical facility shortly after. Since then, she has been out of in-ring action.
Speaking of Mercedes Martinez and her release from WWE, she recently took to her Instagram and issued a statement, where she talked about how she thought she would never make it to the WWE and despite it taking her 20 years to get to the WWE, she wouldn't change anything. Martinez then said she never fit the mold anywhere, but she always stayed true to herself. Martinez then thanked Triple H, the WWE and NXT for giving her the opportunity of a lifetime and that she is looking forward to her next chapter.
Martinez is reportedly under a 30-day non-compete clause with the WWE, which means that after Sunday, September 5th, she can sign with any other pro wrestling promotion she chooses to.
