Monday Night Raw Quick Recap for 1/18/2020

Matches Tonight: 7
  • Charlotte Flair defeated Peyton Royce by submission (Figure Eight). During the match, Ric Flair came out with Lacey Evans--wearing one of Charlotte's robes, or her own--to cause a distraction and once again antagonize Charlotte.
  • Mace, of Retribution, defeated Xavier Woods of the New Day. Before, during and afterwards, Mustafa Ali taunted Kofi Kingston who is at home nursing a broken jaw. Ali's still upset over losing his spot two years ago, due to injury, to Kofi who went on to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.
  • Shayna Baszler defeated Mandy Rose by submission (Kirifidua Clutch). After the match Baszler and Jax argued at ringside until Dana Brooke took them both out and fled up the ramp with her partner, Mandy Rose.
  • AJ Styles defeated Ricochet with a beautiful slingshot-suplex converted into a Styles Clash.
  • In six-man tag action, the Hurt Business (as represented by Cedric Alexander, Shelton Benjamin and United States Champion Bobby Lashely) defeated the combined team of Riddle and the Lucha House Party by submission (the Hurt Lock). We saw more continuation of the issues between the Hurt Business and Cedric Alexander.
  • Jeff Hardy defeated Jaxson Ryker (formerly of the Forgotten Sons, now Elias' roadie) by disqualification. Elias interfered, shoving Hardy off the top and causing the DQ.
  • In our main event, non-title match between Raw Women's Champion Asuka and Alexa Bliss, Bliss transitioned into some darker form of herself after the lights went down mid-match. When they came back up, she easily defeated Asuka clean. The post-match end of show saw her staring into the camera and, thanks to the magic of editing, turn back into her normal, smiling self before exclaiming "let me in" to end the show.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments:
  • Our show opened with a touching tribute/package to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It should be on their YouTube/social media, give it a look. Never forget the dream.
  • We then immediately cut to a dark vignette of Randy Orton who, much like Kane, is now wearing a mask to cover the horrible scarring done by fire. Maybe the K in RKO stands for Kane?
  • We had a humorous "WrestleMania Report" (click here, I think) featuring Triple H and others doing a mock news broadcast to announce the future WrestleMania locations for the next three WM's.
  • Alexa's Playground just furthered the "Alexa Bliss is crazy like the Fiend" gimmick, and Alexa announced she'll be in the Royal Rumble.
  • "Double J" Jeff Jarrett helps promote the Royal Rumble, a week from this Sunday, and makes his pick for the McIntyre/Goldberg match--and predicts Bill Goldberg will walk in the ring, hit a spear, then a Jackhammer, and then we'll have a new WWE Champion--Goooooldberg.
  • MizTV featured Goldberg...but it really turned out to be the return of Bill Gillberg who had words with a Drew McIntyre-ripoff.
