Monday Night Raw Quick Recap for 5/17/2021

Matches Tonight: 7
  • Our first match saw AJ Styles defeat Elias via disqualification. Jaxson Ryker attacked Styles when it was clear he was going to defeat Elias.
  • Our second match was a very short contest in which Angel Garza defeated Drew Gulak, then shoved a rose in his mouth. This storytelling's getting a bit creepy, yeah?
  • Kofi Kingston defeated Randy Orton with a roll-up off a distraction by Woods to steal the win.
  • In a rematch for the Women's Tag Team Championship, Natalya and Tamina retained in part due to a distraction from Alexa Bliss, who put the tag division on notice earlier.
  • United States Champion Sheamus defeated Ricochet in non-title action.
  • Asuka defeated Charlotte Flair to become the new #1 contender for the Raw Women's Championship.
  • Damian Priest defeated John Morrison in a (non-zombie) lumberjack match. Afterwards, he declared he was done with the Miz and Morrison and is considering accepting Lashley's open challenge.
  • In our main event, a match in which MVP billed as an open challenge, the New Day's Kofi Kingston--in his second match of the night--defeated WWE Champion Bobby Lashley. Before the match began, we were all led to believe this would be a title match. Just before it started, MVP revealed he never said it was a "championship" open challenge.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Lashley opened our program with an open challenge for his WWE Championship to anyone in the back except Braun Strowman or Drew McIntyre.
  • Alexa's Playground featured the new Women's Tag Team Champions. Nothing of note other than Alexa and "Lily" will be watching the women's tag division.
  • Akira Tozawa defeated R-Truth to win the 24/7 Championship backstage.
  • Kofi wore Scorpion/Mortal Kombat-inspired ring wear. The MK logo featured a unicorn head instead of a dragon head, though.
  • Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander had a slight altercation, adding more fuel to a potential feud.
