Monday Night Raw Quick Recap for August 9, 2021

Tonight featured a minor tweak in their format, in that backstage segments were significantly shorter (and fewer) than in recent months and more matches--quality ones, no less--were put on our card for tonight. Matches worth truly watching are Ricochet/Sheamus, McIntyre/Corbin (yes, I said that) just to name a few.

Matches Tonight: Eight
  • Singles Match: Drew McIntyre vs Baron Corbin. Prior to the match, Corbin mentioned he was hired by Mahal to take out McIntyre--and Corbin needs the money, he's got kids man. McIntyre won in an entertaining match (yes, I wrote that). 8:24-8:34pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Jeff Hardy vs NXT Champion Karrion Kross. Hardy came out to his former, non-Hardy Boys music. Kross won with the Kross Jacket submission, and then beat Hardy after the match ended for good measure. 8:42-8:51pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Alexa Bliss vs DouDrop w/ Eva Marie. Bliss picked up the win after her doll, Lily, uh...caused a distraction by "winking" at DouDrop. 8:58-9:05pm EST.
  • Singles Contender's Match: Ricochet vs United States Champion Sheamus. If Ricochet were to win, he'd become the new number one contender for Sheamus' title. Worth watching; Ricochet lost in a truly valiant, aerial-packed effort. His aerial game is being refined and it's showing. 9:16-9:27pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Damian Priest vs John Morrison w/ the Miz. Very impressive spot around 9:36pm in which both men engaged in a lengthy series of strike and dodge. Very great work and coordination. Short match that saw Priest win. 9:34-9:38pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Mustafa Ali w/ Mansoor vs T-Bar. High-octane match worth watching that saw Ali lose to his former Retribution teammate. 9:44-9:53pm EST.
  • Singles Non-Title Match: Raw Women's Champion Nikki A.S.H. vs Rhea Ripley. Decent match that saw A.S.H. win via disqualification when Charlotte Flair attacked her mid-match. Flair attacked Ripley next, leaving both women laid out. 10:21-10:31pm EST.
  • Singles Main Event Match: Raw Tag Team Champion AJ Styles w/ Omos vs Randy Orton. Riddle arrived to help prevent an Omos interference, and Orton won with a must-see Phenomenal Forearm-into-RKO-mid-air spot. After the match, Orton hit an RKO on Riddle for coming out and assisting when he was instructed not to. 10:47-11:00pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Team R-K-No?: We opened our program with Randy Orton making his return. He declined to continue teaming with Riddle, stating both do better on their own, but they were rudely interrupted by Raw Tag Team Champions AJ Styles & Omos.
  • SummerSlam Match Added: United States Champion Sheamus accepted a challenge from Damian Priest for the title.
  • An Almighty Address: WWE Champion Bobby Lashley addressed Bill Goldberg and the events as of late. Lashley and MVP addressed Goldberg's 15 year old son, Gage, and implored him not to watch SummerSlam because Goldberg isn't next, he's finished.
  • Elias is Dead: We had a vignette, during which Elias burned his acoustic guitar and announced "WWE stood for 'walk with Elias...but Elias is dead.'"
