Former multi-time WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee is set to return to the company, with an on-screen appearance to happen imminently and an in-ring match scheduled soon thereafter at Wrestlepalooza on September 20.
Fightfulselect.com reports that multiple WWE staff and talent noted that they hadn't seen or directly spoken to Lee since she left over a decade ago however she maintained "very pleasant exchanges" with them over the years. It's also no secret that many of WWE's current stars grew up watching and admiring Lee who are naturally very excited that she's returning to WWE. One WWE veteran noted that they were shocked the return is happening as previously her husband CM Punk would dismiss the idea whenever it was brought up, however, his response could have simply been to be respectful of what his wife wanted to do.
For those wondering whether Lee's return to WWE is a one-off or something more regular, the hope within the company is that they can do more with her following Wrestlepalooza but even if it was a one-and-done type of deal, they happy to simply have her be involved again.
