-- The Lucha Bros - Penta and Rey Fenix - have seen their names in the news frequently as of late with rumors suggesting that both of them are on their way to WWE after their AEW deals run out with Penta headed there first and Fenix to follow. However, earlier today, Penta seemed to refute reports of him heading to WWE's Performance Center in a series of tweets, however, there is more to the story than that.
-- Fightfulselect.com reports that despite the refutal, Penta had told people close to him that he's already had conversations with WWE but that he wasn't interested in working his way through NXT while also stating that he and Fenix would only be going as a package deal, which wouldn't be a problem as WWE is already interested in him. The report added that Penta likely pushed back on the reports of him joining WWE so that Fenix - whose deal expires later this year - doesn't face any further contractual obstacles with AEW.
-- AEW sources state that they suspected that "something like this" had happened - specifically Penta and Fenix - have discussions with WWE before they were legally clear of AEW. When this became publicized, AEW offered the duo a deal that was said to be on par with what WWE was willing to offer.
-- Penta's existing situation with AEW remains unclear as he has reportedly claimed to friends that he is now a free agent but he remains on AEW's official roster page. If Penta is still under AEW contract, the company could technically add injury time to his deal. One internal claim believes that the Lucha Bros didn't want to do "business" in a way that is believed to be the way things happen in professional wrestling, similar to the way others have left other promotions. This would perhaps explain their relatively lack of usage over the last year.
