More Backstage Rumors On WWE's Internal Feeling On Reaction To Cena-Gunther Finish

Earlier today, it was reported that John Cena likely came up with the finish to his match and that WWE's Chief Content Officer Triple H obviously green-lit the decision. It was further noted that the reaction the audience showered on Gunther was exactly what the company was wanting, however, on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer suggested that there were some people within the company who were blindsided by the reaction.

He noted that many people in WWE disagreed with the decision to have Cena submit but Triple H agreed with it and while the company is publicly saying one thing, he speculated that it was the opposite referencing that when people were booing, Triple H's response that he thought it would be louder was a "defense mechanism."

Meltzer added that if WWE had Cena simply pass out in the sleeper hold, the reaction wouldn't have been as negative due to the way Cena's character has pushed the "never give up" attitude. However, Meltzer did concede that the reaction fans gave Gunther at WWE Raw supports the company's decision to have him win the match as the negativity and hatred he received from the fans went to a new level.
