More Details Around Drew McIntyre's Contract Situation With WWE

-- News broke this weekend that Drew McIntyre's contract with WWE is set to expire sometime this year but "not imminently" with added context that the two sides aren't really close in talks for a new deal, setting a potential stage of McIntyre becoming a free agent. Fightfulselect.com is reporting that McIntyre's contract is running out "within the next nine months" which puts it in the late 2023 timeframe and they add that McIntyre has made it clear that he will wait until closer to the deal's end before signing anything as he has multiple factors to consider. From WWE's side, they are said to be eager to re-sign McIntyre and are hoping to engage him in serious talks later this year before he becomes a free agent.

-- The report went onto state that McIntyre is among many WWE contracts that are set to expire within the next two year as the timeline would coincide with the company handing out five-year deals back in 2019 when AEW was launched. However, it should be noted some of those that were locked up to these five-year deals were actually released at some point and re-signed so it's unclear what those new terms would be. However, what is known is that during the Vince McMahon era, WWE usually waited until closer to the expiration of contracts before extending offers to re-sign; how that has changed under Triple H remains to be seen.
