More Details On CM Punk's WWE Contract Situation & Backstage Demeanor

-- CM Punk's contractual status with WWE has been in the news this week with an initial report suggesting that Punk approached the company to restructure his deal as he would like to remain with WWE until retirement. It was then clarified that it wasn't Punk who initiated the contact, but rather WWE who was looking to renegotiate his deal given that the wrestling world is quite a bit different now than when Punk signed, pointing to the incredible numbers that have been generated in terms of social activity and merchandise sales.

-- Punk's original deal with WWE was for three years and there was some question on if the company would extend that on the basis of adding time to the contract while Punk was sidelined with injury. Fightfulselect.com reports that people close to Punk don't believe this will be the case as Punk hasn't actually stopped working for WWE during his injury time. Instead, he has appeared on Raw, Smackdown, as a panelist on PLEs, worked commentary and helped coach within NXT - something he volunteered to do.

-- Either way, Punk left behind the reputation he had during his first stint in WWE and in AEW and is said to be "very easy to deal with" with one source pointing out that some of the promo lines that were thrown his way would have been a major problem for the old Punk but instead he has handled it well knowing that he is in the middle of one of WWE's top storylines. Drew McIntyre has even gone so far as to reference Punk's issues with Jack Perry by posting a photo of himself with Perry (before deleting it) and he also outright named Colt Cabana when speaking of Punk, which almost everyone has stayed away from knowing the history Cabana has with Punk.
