According to Deadline.com, NBCUniversal has informed YouTube TV subscribers that it may remove its content from the service as soon as the end of this month. This warning comes amid ongoing disputes between NBCUniversal and YouTube over carriage fees and terms. Both NBCUniversal and TelevisaUnivision have contracts with YouTube TV that expire on Tuesday, September 30th.
If an agreement is not reached promptly, millions of U.S. subscribers—approximately 10 million—could lose access to significant programming. For NBCUniversal, this includes popular shows and events such as WWE SmackDown on the USA Network, Sunday Night Football, NBA games (starting next month), Big Ten Football, Premier League matches, The Voice, The Real Housewives, and Saturday Night Live. On the TelevisaUnivision side, this could mean losing both major Hispanic networks: Univision and Telemundo.
The report indicates that sports programming is the primary sticking point in negotiations. YouTube TV has proposed that content available exclusively on Peacock, such as the Premier League, be integrated into its main interface, allowing users to access it without leaving the YouTube TV platform. However, this arrangement currently gives NBCUniversal complete control over the content. YouTube has offered financial compensation for this integration, but the amount has not satisfied NBCUniversal.
