It is unclear why the company agreed to release Dillinger - who publicly asked to be let go - but the consensus seems to be that he was not considered a "make or break" guy and generally was though to be dispensable.
-- Dillinger's contract most likely includes a 90-day non-compete clause which would clear him in plenty of time for the May AEW Double or Nothing event should he choose to go that route as he is good friends with Cody Rhodes.
