Northeast Wrestling Legend Robbie Ellis Passes Away At The Age Of 82

Robbie Ellis, whose real name was Robert Jason Elowitch, passed away on Thursday, August 7th, at the age of 82, according to PWInsider.com. He was a legendary figure in the Northeast independent wrestling scene.

During his wrestling career, Ellis competed for numerous independent promotions in the Northeast, including New England Championship Wrestling, International Championship Wrestling, and the North Atlantic Wrestling Association. After retiring from in-ring action in 2012, he made a return to wrestling in 2014 as the storyline owner of CHIKARA. Ellis held various titles throughout the Northeast and was inducted into the New England Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2008.

Ellis' contributions to professional wrestling earned him a feature in Sports Illustrated. Additionally, a documentary about his life both inside and outside the ring, titled “Canvasman: The Robbie Ellis Story,” directed by Gary Robinov, was screened at various film festivals in 2010 and 2011.
